KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has expressed objection to misleading news circulating in some media and social platforms regarding his informal discussion with delegates representing Kathmandu district ahead of the party’s second general convention.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat clarified that the meeting was not a training program, but merely a casual, informal gathering on the eve of the convention.

The Secretariat also noted that Oli had met with party leaders and officials from Lalitpur district on Bhadra 11.

Reports claiming that Oli said, “No one but Bidya Devi Bhandari can challenge me in UML”, were deemed entirely fabricated and misleading.

During the discussion, Oli shared his views on the historical struggles of the leftist movement, damages caused by personal interests to the party, party policies and central decisions, and the government’s development and good governance initiatives.

Addressing references to former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Oli said it was inappropriate for her to engage in active political discussions with media and other leaders without formally joining the party, as such actions could weaken party unity.

He added that even if she joined and contested for the chairpersonship, her chances of winning would be slim, and such activities would not benefit the party.

Oli also expressed his surprise that despite the respect and affection he had shown her, she could take a stance opposing the party and leadership.

He cautioned that similar actions could lead to consequences, citing the case of Bhim Rawal.

The Secretariat urged journalists and stakeholders to report responsibly, verify facts, and avoid misrepresenting sensitive political matters.
