KATHMANDU: Former central member Pasang Sherpa’s candidacy for the central committee of the CPN-UML has been disqualified.

The party’s Election Commission annulled his nomination, citing violations of party criteria.

Sherpa was convicted in a polygamy case and sentenced to one year in prison along with a fine of Rs 5,000.

He was arrested on Kartik 18 and released after paying Rs 109,500, calculated at Rs 300 per day in lieu of the prison term.

Sherpa had previously been elected as a central member in UML’s 10th General Convention.

However, his candidacy for the current 11th convention was rejected due to party regulations.

The UML central committee election is currently underway at Bhrikutimandap.
