KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Kamala Panta has expressed concerns over rising corruption in Nepal.

Speaking at the National Assembly on Sunday, she cited the latest report by Transparency International, which monitors corruption and governance worldwide.

According to the report, Nepal’s corruption score has dropped compared to the previous year.

Pant highlighted that Nepal scored only 34 points in 2024, down from 35 in 2023, indicating a decline in governance and a rise in corruption. She urged a thorough evaluation of the factors contributing to this decline.

“It is disheartening that Nepal’s governance has weakened, and corruption has increased. What went wrong compared to last year? This must be assessed,” she emphasized.

She also reminded that only five years remain to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stressing the urgent need for improved governance.
