KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has reported ongoing moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning across several parts of Nepal, including Lumbini, Karnali, Bagmati, Madhes, and Koshi provinces.

According to meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane, the rain-bearing system is gradually moving eastward. He urged the public to remain cautious, warning of possible risks from thunderstorms and lightning.

“The weather system bringing rainfall is shifting east. Please take necessary precautions,” he said.

He added that both an upper-level westerly trough and local wind systems are currently influencing Nepal’s weather.

In the Kathmandu Valley, rainfall is expected to ease after some time, with cloud patterns varying across different regions.

The department stated that tonight, hilly and Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as Himalayan regions of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, will see partly cloudy to generally cloudy conditions.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly and Terai areas of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Light snowfall is also possible in some high Himalayan regions.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay alert, especially in areas prone to lightning strikes and sudden weather changes.
