KATHMANDU: Two newly appointed ministers — Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun — have taken their oath of office and secrecy in a formal ceremony held at Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday.

The oath was administered by President Ramchandra Paudel during a special ceremony attended by Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Balen Shah, Chair of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal, Chief Justice Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma, and members of the Council of Ministers.

Following a cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Shah had recommended the appointment of Gurung as Home Minister and Pun as Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation. Acting on the recommendation, President Paudel appointed both ministers on the same day before administering the oath.

Sudhan Gurung, elected from Gorkha-1 constituency, had previously served as Home Minister for 27 days before resigning amid controversy over the source of his assets.

The government had formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter, which later cleared him, paving the way for his return to the Home Ministry portfolio.

Mahabir Pun, an independent lawmaker elected from Myagdi, joins the cabinet in charge of innovation and technology. He had previously served as Education Minister in the government led by Sushila Karki.

Despite being elected as an independent candidate, he has been brought back into the cabinet by Prime Minister Shah.
