Nepal to host global climate conference on Bhadra 2 & 3

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has announced that Nepal will host an international conference on climate change impacts from the parliamentary level on Bhadra 2 and 3.

The announcement was made upon his return to Nepal on Sunday after participating in the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.

Speaker Ghimire informed that the decision to organize the conference was made to address the growing effects of climate change in Nepal and the region.

He also revealed that discussions during the Geneva conference included this upcoming initiative.

In addition, Ghimire held talks with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) regarding a separate climate-related event for the Asia-Pacific region, proposed for Jan 30 and 31, 2026.

Speaker Ghimire led a three-member delegation to Geneva on Shrawan 11 to attend the conference jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations (UN).

During the conference, he also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Malta, Israel, Bhutan, and other nations to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and discuss climate-related issues.
