KATHMANDU: A powerful and emotionally stirring play, ‘Manjira: The Muted Melody’, is currently being staged at Mandala Theatre in Thapagaun, Kathmandu.
The play explores the deep scars left by Nepal’s decade-long armed conflict, shedding light on the unseen traumas and silenced voices that continue to resonate long after the war ended.
At the heart of the story is Manjira, a woman forced to confront a figure from her past — someone whose reappearance threatens the fragile stability she has built over the years. Her silent suffering is portrayed with haunting realism, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
Certain scenes are emotionally intense and may evoke discomfort among viewers who share similar lived experiences.
The play also raises critical questions about justice — emphasizing how the pursuit of justice often becomes a selective and subjective process.
Written by Somnath Khanal and Sandesh Ghimire, and directed by Somnath Khanal, the production is a gripping portrayal of post-war trauma, memory, and resilience.
The cast includes celebrated actors Saroj Khanal, Sarita Giri, Saraswati Chaudhary, Sushank Mainali, and Anup Neupane, whose performances elevate the narrative’s emotional weight.
‘Manjira: The Muted Melody’ opened on Jestha 16 and will continue until Ashar 8.
The show runs every evening at 5:15 PM, except Mondays. Additionally, there will be special matinee shows every Saturday at 1:00 PM.
