Man held for stealing Buddha statue from Deuba’s residence
The arrested individual has been identified as 29-year-old Vijay Lama, a resident of Tandi, Kalika Municipality-6, Chitwan.
KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a Buddha statue from the private residence of Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha.
The arrested individual has been identified as 29-year-old Vijay Lama, a resident of Tandi, Kalika Municipality-6, Chitwan.
According to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, Lama was apprehended from the Pepsi-Cola area of the Capital.
During a search of his rented apartment, police recovered the stolen Buddha statue along with a Ganesh idol and a conch shell.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Lama stole the items from Deuba’s residence on September 9, during a youth protest staged in front of the property with various demands.
Lama is currently in custody at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, in Bhadrakali.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine any additional individuals involved in the theft.
