KMC to host ‘film festival in every neighborhood
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to organize a citywide initiative titled “Film Festival in Every Neighborhood,” aimed at bringing the film industry closer to local communities while honoring professionals in the sector.
According to Aashaman Sangat, Coordinator of the Heritage and Tourism Committee under KMC, the program is designed to connect all dimensions of the film industry with grassroots communities and promote filmmaking as a respected profession in society.
Speaking about the expected outcomes of the initiative, Sangat said the festival will help establish a stronger cultural bond between cinema and the public, while enhancing appreciation for the film sector at the community level.
The Heritage and Tourism Department of KMC is preparing to implement the program in collaboration with non-profit organizations, youth clubs, community groups, Tole Development Committees, cultural organizations, and local “pucha” groups engaged in social and cultural activities. These organizations will be assigned responsibilities for managing events at the community level.
Screenings will be held in traditional neighborhood spaces such as toles, bahas, wahis, courtyards, chowks, nanis, amphitheaters, and public parks—transforming open public areas into cultural viewing venues.
For this purpose, KMC has invited open proposals from interested organizations. Applicants may submit their proposals through the official website of the metropolitan city before midnight on Jestha 27.
Kumari Rai, Head of the department, urged interested organizations to come forward, emphasizing that community-level collaboration is essential for the successful management of the program.
A monitoring and evaluation committee has also been formed under the coordination of Aashaman Sangat to ensure quality control, including the selection of films, content standards, presentation quality, and the overall effectiveness of the program.
