Thaksin Shinawatra fully freed after royal pardon & probation ends
His electronic monitoring (EM) tag has now been removed, marking the end of his supervised status.
KATHMANDU: Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been fully released from all legal restrictions after successfully completing his probation period following a royal pardon, Thailand’s Department of Corrections confirmed.
According to the department, Thaksin’s probation period officially ended after four months and one day, during which he complied with all conditions set by authorities. His electronic monitoring (EM) tag has now been removed, marking the end of his supervised status.
Officials said that following the enforcement of a royal pardon decree on June 3, a review committee assessed his eligibility. He qualified under criteria that included being over 60 years of age and having less than three years remaining on his sentence.
Based on the review, the committee approved his full release. Authorities confirmed that Thaksin has now completely served his sentence, and all remaining custodial and legal conditions have automatically expired.
With this decision, Thaksin regains full personal freedom, similar to other recipients of royal pardons in Thailand.
