KATHMANDU: A government committee has reported that the Gen Z movement on Bhadra 23 and 24 resulted in damage worth Rs 84.45 billion to physical infrastructure across Nepal.

The committee, formed to assess losses and draft a reconstruction plan for public structures, submitted its report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki today.

According to the report, 2,168 government bodies and institutions were affected during the protests, which caused damage across all seven provinces.

The destruction was recorded in 54 districts and 262 local levels.

The report states that 77 people lost their lives in the incidents—20 on Bhadra 23, 37 on Bhadra 24, and 20 in the following days.

A total of 2,429 individuals were injured, including 17 children under 13 and 1,433 people aged between 13 and 28.

The protests damaged 12,659 vehicles, causing losses worth Rs 12.93 billion.

Damage to government and public structures amounted to Rs 44.93 billion, while losses to private property were assessed at Rs 33.54 billion.

Community and other sectors suffered damages worth Rs 5.97 billion.

Similarly, 2,671 buildings were affected, with structural losses valued at Rs 39.31 billion.

According to the report, the share of losses within government structures stands at 68% for the federal level, 10% for provincial governments, and 22% for local levels.

The reconstruction of damaged government structures alone is estimated to cost Rs 36.30 billion.

The committee, led by the Secretary of the National Planning Commission, was formed on Ashoj 5 and submitted its findings to the government today, completing its work within 75 days.
