FM Rana slams QAA denial to nursing campus over poolitical bias
She criticized the practice of using minor reasons and personal or political biases to withhold such recognition, calling it disappointing.
KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has expressed concern over the Maharajgunj Nursing Campus not receiving the Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) certification.
Speaking at a program organized at the campus on Sunday, Minister Rana highlighted the importance of QAA, stating that she fully understands what it means for a campus to achieve such recognition. “I know well how important QAA is for an academic institution.
Denying the QAA certificate due to personal grudges or political vendettas is unjust. Authorities should either specify the standards that need to be met or grant the certification,” she asserted.
She criticized the practice of using minor reasons and personal or political biases to withhold such recognition, calling it disappointing.
Minister Rana urged concerned bodies to either clearly state the requirements or provide the certification.
Emphasizing the vital role of nurses in healthcare, she encouraged students going abroad for better opportunities to eventually return to Nepal and contribute to the nation’s development. “Out of 628 students who passed, around 575 are going abroad. If we can’t provide such opportunities here, we can’t stop them from seeking better futures elsewhere. But I urge you to gain experience abroad and return—Nepal needs you.”
Minister Rana further noted that while doctors may perform surgeries, it is the nurses who care for lives.
Sharing a personal anecdote, she humorously mentioned a “surgery competition” between her and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli—stating that she had undergone nine surgeries, while he had ten.
