Ex-King praise song on PM Balen’s YouTube channel sparks buzz
Following its appearance, users on social media platforms began debating the content, with some even using the comments section to express support for the restoration of the monarchy.
KATHMANDU: A song referencing former King Gyanendra Shah has appeared on Prime Minister Balen Shah’s official YouTube channel, triggering widespread discussion on social media.
The track titled “Shir Mathi Nepal Aama” was uploaded on Feb 20, 2024, on a channel labeled “Balen.” The lyrics reportedly include lines such as “Shir Mathi Nepal Aama lai, Kandha Mathi Gyanendra Raja lai”—portraying the former monarch in a respectful light and describing him as a peaceful ruler.
Following its appearance, users on social media platforms began debating the content, with some even using the comments section to express support for the restoration of the monarchy.
However, there is no clear evidence that Prime Minister Shah personally created or directly uploaded the song. Tech observers suggest the content may have surfaced automatically through YouTube’s “Releases” system, which aggregates officially distributed music onto artist channels.
Balen Shah, widely known as a rapper, lyricist, and music producer, operates an “Official Artist Channel” on YouTube with over 1.3 million subscribers.
YouTube’s system allows music distributed through third-party platforms such as TuneCore or DistroKid to be automatically linked to an artist’s channel if metadata lists them as a primary or featured artist.
Experts also warn that improper or manipulated metadata in digital distribution can sometimes result in unrelated or AI-generated content being associated with official artist pages.
YouTube provides tools within YouTube Studio for channel owners to request removal of content they believe is incorrectly linked or irrelevant.
