KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized that elections are the sole means to establish sustainable democracy while maintaining peace and harmony in the country.

During a meeting at Baluwatar with Durga Prasai, leader of the “Campaign for the Protection of Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens,” PM Karki stressed the need to conduct the upcoming elections on Falgun 21 in a peaceful and fear-free environment, ensuring broad public participation.

She noted that many of the campaigners’ demands align with public interests and assured that the government is taking steps to address them.

She urged all concerns and demands to be expressed through peaceful channels.

Highlighting the necessity of elections to overcome political instability, uncertainty, and unrest, PM Karki requested Prasai’s support in a national campaign to ensure the polls’ success.

She underlined that securing public approval through elections remains the only democratic solution.

“We have brought the country to its current stage after navigating extremely challenging circumstances. With the cooperation of all relevant parties, we are working day and night to conduct elections on the scheduled date and provide a political solution for the nation,” she said. “Let us all act responsibly, participate actively, and ensure a successful election, keeping in mind that this country belongs to all of us.”

PM Karki also reaffirmed her government’s commitment to justice, stating, “We are advocates of justice, not here for power or personal gain. We have initiated processes to eliminate corruption and provide justice to the oppressed and marginalized. While results may not appear overnight, the foundation has been laid. The government is actively working on many of the issues you have raised, and we will continue discussions with you. We are always with you.”

On the occasion, the Prime Minister requested support in the peace campaign and presented a picture of Lord Gautam Buddha, symbolizing peace, to Prasai, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
