KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress Central Disciplinary Committee has initiated action against three leaders from Sankhuwasabha, including former minister and former invited central member Deepak Khadka, over allegations of anti-party activities during the last general election.

A meeting of the committee held on Monday decided to seek explanations from Khadka, District Working Committee Secretary Kumar Babu Adhikari, and General Convention Representative Thal Kumar Linkha for allegedly colluding against the party’s official candidate in the elections held in Falgun.

The committee has instructed them to submit a written clarification within five days.

In a letter signed by committee secretary Dinesh Thapa Magar, it is alleged that the three leaders engaged in organized efforts against the party’s official candidate, misled party cadres, and supported an opposition candidate.

The disciplinary process was initiated following a complaint claiming planned activities against Nepali Congress’s official candidate Deepan Kumar Shrestha in Sankhuwasabha during the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21, 2082.

The letter further accuses Deepak Khadka of making public remarks against party leadership and policies during a door-to-door campaign program held at Mude Bazar of Dharmadevi Municipality on Falgun 12.

He is alleged to have encouraged cadres to act independently, stating that he would not accept the working committee elected from the special general convention and claiming the Congress would not win the election.

Similarly, District Secretary Kumar Babu Adhikari and General Convention Representative Thal Kumar Linkha have been accused of acting under Khadka’s direction in anti-organizational activities.

They are alleged to have pressured cadres not to participate in the party’s election campaign and, while appearing supportive of Congress externally, secretly supported the opposition candidate.

The committee has concluded that these actions constitute a serious violation of discipline under Article 34 of the Nepali Congress Statute, 2017 (with amendments).

Calling the explanation a final opportunity, the committee has asked the leaders to clarify why action should not be taken against them. It has also warned that if a satisfactory response is not received within the given timeframe, further disciplinary measures will be taken as per party rules.
