Dharan bus mishap: Identity of 5 deceased confirmed

KATHMANDU: The identity of five people killed in a road accident in Dharan this afternoon was confirmed, Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Sunsari, Chandra Khadka said.

The accident occurred around 4 PM at the Zero Point, involving a Times International Academy Janakpur bus (Ko 1 Kha 7119) traveling from Bhedetar to Dharan along the Koshi Highway.

The bus reportedly went out of control and collided with New Suba Medical.

Authorities confirmed that 13 passengers were on board at the time.

Among the deceased were Rishab Kumar Mandal (18 months), son of Rohit Kumar Mandal from Gaidadewapur-8, Mahottari, and Dhairya Kumar Yadav (31) from the same area. Additionally, Suveksha Subba (24), owner of Suba Medical in Dharan-13, Omesh Rai (age 24) from Barahakshetra-3, Sunsari, and Nayan Thapa Magar (19) from Mechinagar, Jhapa also lost their lives.

Twelve others sustained injuries, with several in serious condition, including Rina Mandal (25) of Janakpur-12, Jitendra Mandal (38) of Dhanaundi-2, Mahmat Mulal (25) of Matthipani-4, Mahottari, Sunena Devi Mandal (40) of Janakpur-1, and Krishna Mandal (20) of Janakpur-5.

Others sustained moderate to minor injuries, including Lakshmi Mandal (23), Raja Babu (18), Manita Devi Mandal (40), Punita Mandal (30), Yashoda Shrestha (43, Dharan-13), and Rohit Mandal (24) and Rohan Mandal (24) of Janakpur, whose conditions are reported as stable.

The Sunsari District Police Office confirmed that emergency teams are managing the situation, and the injured have been admitted to local medical facilities.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
