KATHMANDU: Supporters of former King Gyanendra Shah gathered outside the main gate of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) to welcome him, despite a security lockdown imposed by Kathmandu authorities.
Authorities had enforced a ban around the airport and deployed heavy police presence from early morning.
Medical professional Durga Prasain also arrived to greet the former monarch, who was flying in from Jhapa.
Police blocked supporters from entering the airport premises, keeping the crowd outside.
Chants and slogans by royalist supporters caused disruptions to passenger movement, making entry and exit difficult.
Security officials said vigilance remains high to ensure order.
