KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the CPN-UML, Mahesh Basnet, has warned of launching a large-scale protest aimed at toppling what he described as the “administration led by” Balen Shah, escalating political tensions in the capital.

Speaking at a meeting of the party’s Bagmati Province organizational committee, Basnet accused the current leadership of making “anti-national statements” and criticized the state of parliamentary debate.

“There is no one effective in Parliament. People should understand this,” he said, adding that the party should prepare for a stronger street movement than past protests.

Basnet further warned that the current leadership would not “last even six months” if the UML mobilizes a nationwide agitation, referring to the youth-led demonstrations held on Bhadra 23 and 24 as a reference point for scale and intensity.

He also urged internal unity within the party, stressing the need to strengthen organizational discipline ahead of potential political confrontation.
