KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has mobilized around 50,000 security personnel across the country to ensure safety during the ongoing festival season.

According to the central spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire, all security units have already implemented special festival security plans.

“We have coordinated with other security agencies and engaged citizens to create a safe environment for celebrating festivals without fear. Potential risk areas have been identified, and special surveillance measures have been put in place,” he said.

Ghimire further informed that drones, trained sniffer dogs, and plainclothes police officers will be deployed as needed.

In the Kathmandu Valley alone, over 6,000 police personnel have been stationed, with additional reinforcements on standby if required.

The security focus is on ensuring smooth vehicular movement, preventing disturbances caused by alcohol consumption, curbing disputes, and monitoring criminal activities such as theft, smuggling, and black-marketing.

Police have also intensified monitoring against overcharging of public transport fares and other exploitative practices during the festive rush.
