KATHMANDU: Former Cooperative Registrar of Gandaki State, Uday Bahadur Parajuli, has been arrested on charges of accepting a Rs. 12.5 million bribe to extend the operational area of Mitramilan Cooperative in Pokhara.

The arrest was made based on statements from Mitra Milan Cooperative Chair Raman Poudel and Manager Kiran Adhikari, leading to an arrest warrant issued on Poush 5 (Dec 21).

Parajuli, currently serving as the Chief Administrative Officer of Kushma Municipality in Parbat, was apprehended from his office, according to Acting Chief Inspector Arjun Paudel of District Police Office Parbat.

Chair Poudel and Managing Officer Adhikari, arrested on Kartik 4 (Ocr 21), admitted to offering a bribe of Rs. 12.5 million to facilitate the expansion of the cooperative’s operations.

Poudel, residing in Aandhikhola Rural Municipality of Syangja, aimed to bring funds to the cooperative by expanding its working scope in his municipality. However, after Parajuli obstructed the file, he disclosed that he paid a bribe of Rs. 12.5 million.

Arrest warrants were issued for 30 individuals, including the ward president, due to Mitramilan Sahakari’s failure to repay the loan amount.

The list includes the former registrar Parajuli and Ghimire of Rastriya Sahakari Bank Limited. Charges against Chairman Paudel and Managing Officer include banking offenses.
