KATHMANDU: Kajiman Rai, the chief administrative officer of Maijogmai Rural Municipality in Ilam, who had a ‘romance’ with an accounting officer in the office, has had his ‘Integrity Icon Nepal-2019’ award revoked.

The award was canceled by Accountability Lab Nepal.

The lab stated in a statement that an explanation was sought 24 hours after his unethical conduct were made public.

The decision to rescind the Lab Award was taken following his response that he would accept responsibility for the incident that was made public about him and that the organization’s decision was valid.

A letter was sent through the available means (email, messenger, WhatsApp, phone message, Viber) asking them to send a reply with their opinion in this regard.

In response, Rai said, ‘I am ready to take responsibility for the incident that happened on social media about me. He sent a reply saying that he is sorry for the loss caused to the entire Icon family and that he accepts the decision made by the organization in this regard,” the statement said.

The lab has expressed regret for Rai’s behavior. The announcement noted that the prize was presented based on the facts, information, and standards received during the time period, and that serious attention was drawn to the addition of the organization’s name in the news.

A video of Rai engaging in sexual activities with his coworkers was released a few days ago.
