Oli govt did not correspond with China about the new map: Foreign Minister

Minister Saud stated that no letter was sent to China after the map released on Jestha 7, 2077 (20 May 2020) was unanimously passed by the House of Representatives on Jestha 31, 2077 (13 June 2020) and placed in the schedule of the constitution.

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister NP Saud stated that no record of telling China about the map, which includes Kalapani, Lipulek, and Limpiyadhura, has been located.

Minister Saud stated that no letter was sent to China after the map released on Jestha 7, 2077 (20 May 2020) was unanimously passed by the House of Representatives on Jestha 31, 2077 (13 June 2020) and placed in the schedule of the constitution.

At the meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Saud said that no record of correspondence was found when he searched the relevant division of the ministry. I humbly request that after the release of the map, I have not received such correspondence from the South Asia and North East Division of the Ministry. I will be happy if there is information that correspondence has been made,’ said Minister Saud.

Pradeep Gyawali from UML was the foreign minister when India released the map that included Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura.

The parliamentary committee has contacted Foreign Minister Saud to inquire whether other countries are aware of such a map.

The matter of then-Foreign Minister Gyawali’s claim that correspondence was raised was also discussed in the parliamentary committee.
