CIB to now investigate the gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of Police will now investigate the seizure of one quintal of gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office.

Until today, the Revenue Investigation Department was the only one looking at the case.

Following discussions with the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Inspector General of Nepal Police, the government decided yesterday that the remaining work of the inquiry will be assigned to the CIB.

The Revenue Investigation will turn over the files from the investigation thus far, as well as the names of individuals arrested, to the CIB.

After completion of the investigation, Revenue Investigation Department will prosecute revenue evasion and CIB will prosecute organized crime.
