KATHMANDU: Dhanraj Gurung, a Nepali Congress candidate, is staging a sit-in protest to demand that the votes in Syangja 2 be counted.

Gurung, the Congress’ vice-chairperson, staged a sit-in protest at the election officer’s office in Waling on Tuesday, demanding that vote count to begin.

CPN-UML refused to allow vote counting in that area, demanding re-voting and claiming that some polling stations were rigged.

The Election Commission has received a petition alleging that polling stations in various locations throughout Syangja 2 have been occupied.

Other processes, according to Chief District Officer Ganga Bahadur Chhetri, will begin only after the Commission makes the necessary decision.

Padma Aryal, UML Secretary, and Dhanraj Gurung, Congress, are candidates in Syangja Representative Assembly Constituency No. 2.

Syangja Congress stated that if the counting of votes does not begin immediately, the movement will hold additional programs.
