KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has demanded the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane regarding cooperative issues.

Following discussions with senior party leaders on Tuesday, Speaker Devraj Ghimire informed journalists, as disclosed by Nepali Congress spokesperson Ramesh Lekhak.

Lekhak revealed that during the meeting, deliberations were held on the upcoming session of the federal parliament and the insistence of Nepali Congress on forming a parliamentary probe committee.

He stated that the party is committed to presenting a serious stance during the government’s presentation in the upcoming parliamentary session, especially concerning the refund of savings made by cooperative depositors.

Lekhak indicated concerns over the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane in cooperative matters and observed that the government had not taken the issue of cooperative victims seriously, failing to address the problem.

He mentioned that the option of forming a parliamentary probe committee was not ruled out.
