BIRATNAGAR: Former Nepali Congress President Ashok Koirala has passed away. Koirala, who had been unwell for several days, died at the Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar on Thursday morning, Congress district secretary Nagesh Koirala confirmed.

The late Koirala was a member of the Constituent Assembly and one term vice-president of the National Assembly and one term was the district president of the Nepali Congress.

Koirala has a son, a daughter and a wife. Born in 2001 BS at Koirala’s residence in Biratnagar, Koirala had been living in Madhumara, Biratnagar-8.

He was the first mayor of Biratnagar sub-metropolis. It has been confirmed that Koirala died due to pneumonia. He will be buried in Biratnagar at 1 pm today.

Congress Morang has expressed grief over Koirala’s demise.
