Ban on Twitter and Instagram in Myanmar

Kathmandu. The use of Twitter and Instagram was also banned in Myanmar on Saturday. Facebook has already been banned.

Myanmar’s military detained the leaders of the National Lead for Democracy (NLD), including Aung San Suu Kyi, in a coup on Monday.

Myanmar’s communications ministry has ordered mobile networks and Internet service providers to ban Twitter and Instagram after the military coup was widely criticized on social media.

Protesters against the military coup have been posting videos and photos of the demonstration on social media, while others have been expressing support through the same medium. Twitter has called Myanmar’s move “worrying”. (In collaboration with agencies)
