Fifteen killed as truck hits sleeping workers on sidewalk

Agency. At least 15 workers have died after being hit by a truck in Gujarat, India. According to Indian media, 15 people were killed when a truck overturned on 20 workers sleeping on the sidewalk.

The truck had jumped on the sleeping workers on the sidewalk of Kosamba area near Surat. The truck driver lost control after colliding with a tractor carrying sugarcane, according to the Indian newspaper Dainik Bhaskar. Twelve people died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries at the government hospital in Surat.

The workers were residents of Kushalgarh in Bansawada district of Rajasthan. Five injured people are in an undergoing treatment. Police have taken the truck and its driver under control.
