KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has stated that there has been no delay in providing relief to victims of wildfire & fire.

He emphasized that ensuring relief remains the government’s top priority, as highlighted during today’s discussion on the current status, risks, and immediate priorities regarding wildfire & fire, and current situations organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Minister Lamichhane asserted, ‘During an emergency, the government has not been unable to assist two to four hundred individuals.

There have been no delays in relief efforts; resources are being efficiently managed.’ Despite not being able to accurately predict disasters, he stressed the importance of proactive preparation based on available information, stating, ‘Remaining vigilant based on available information helps minimize damage to public property. It is crucial to rectify mistakes from the past year through proper preparation.’

Additionally, Minister Lamichhane extended his involvement in creating awareness-raising programs at schools on this topic, emphasizing the need for coordination with local governments.

He stated, ‘We must coordinate with local governments to conduct awareness programs. We acknowledge our mistakes in public awareness efforts and must strive for improvement.’

The Home Minister’s remarks were made in the context of conducting proactive awareness programs on this subject in schools once a week.

The Home Minister, Lamichhane, expressed the need to increase the capacity of fire engines.

He stated, “The government has approved the construction of 22 buildings so far. However, will the capacity of fire engines increase to accommodate them? This requires increasing resources. Expansion of burn units in security agency hospitals is also necessary.”

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority under the Ministry of Home Affairs, in the last 24 hours, there were fires in 46 places, fires in 43 places and one person died due to burns.
