KATHMANDU: Zimbabwe pulled off a stunning 23-run victory over Australia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Friday in Colombo, registering their second consecutive win of the tournament.

Australia, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat.

In the Group C clash, Zimbabwe posted 169 for 2 after being asked to bat first.

In reply, Australia were bowled out for 146 in 19.3 overs while chasing a target of 170.

Openers Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani laid a solid foundation for Zimbabwe.

Bennett struck 64 off 56 balls, hitting seven boundaries, while Marumani contributed 35 runs.

Ryan Burl added 35, and Sikandar Raza remained unbeaten on 25 to steer Zimbabwe to a competitive total.

Australia’s bowling effort saw Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green claim one wicket each, but they struggled to contain Zimbabwe’s steady batting display.

In response, Australia failed to build lasting partnerships despite a fighting knock from Matt Renshaw, who scored 65 off 44 balls.

Glenn Maxwell chipped in with 31, but the rest of the batting line-up faltered under pressure.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with Blessing Muzarabani leading the attack with four wickets.

Brad Evans provided crucial support, taking three wickets to seal a memorable victory.

The result strengthens Zimbabwe’s position in Group C and adds fresh momentum to their T20 World Cup campaign, while Australia will look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
