VP Yadav urges action for dalits amid cold wave in Madhesh
Speaking at a program organized by the National Dalit Commission on Monday, Yadav emphasized that Dalits remain the most vulnerable during natural disasters.
KATHMANDU: Vice President Ram Sahaya Yadav has raised concerns over the hardships faced by the Dalit community in Madhesh due to the ongoing cold wave.
Speaking at a program organized by the National Dalit Commission on Monday, Yadav emphasized that Dalits remain the most vulnerable during natural disasters.
He urged the commission to play a proactive guardian role—providing direct assistance wherever possible and alerting the government in areas where intervention is required.
The Vice President highlighted that Dalits in the Terai-Madhesh region continue to lag behind in access to education, healthcare, and political representation.
He stressed the importance of the commission actively bringing these communities into the mainstream.
Yadav also noted that economic constraints and low public awareness prevent many Dalits from benefiting from programs such as health insurance.
He called for institutionalized awareness campaigns and suggested that the commission implement skill- and employment-oriented programs targeting marginalized communities in underdeveloped areas and settlements.
Acknowledging that remnants of discrimination and social inequality still persist in society, Yadav urged the commission to take the lead in eliminating such practices, including caste-based biases within the Dalit community itself.
He also recommended the full implementation of the commission’s strategic plans for 2082 and 2087 BS and its complaint management system.
