KATHMANDU: The CPN–UML has decided not to invite foreign delegates to its upcoming 11th General Convention.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting of the party’s Central Convention Management Secretariat held at the party headquarters in Chyasal on Thursday, UML leader Mahesh Bartaula said that the party will not be calling foreign political parties for physical participation.

Instead, 26 political parties from various countries will receive written goodwill messages.

The UML’s 11th General Convention is scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from Mangsir 27 to 29.

According to Bartaula, sixteen political parties from within Nepal have been invited to the event, which the party has prioritized as a major public-mobilization campaign.

He said that hundreds of thousands of UML leaders and cadres have already started arriving in Kathmandu for the convention.

The party aims to warn forces engaging in unconstitutional or undemocratic activities and to convey a message of safeguarding democratic practices, Bartaula added.

The convention will have a total of 2,268 delegates, including 108 nominated members.

Thursday’s meeting also instructed party units to immediately complete the remaining preparations and ensure smooth management of the event.

Bartaula further stated that the UML is committed to giving significant space to youth leaders.

Each of the country’s 165 constituencies is required to include at least one representative below the age of 40 among every four delegates, ensuring legal and organizational representation of young members.
