KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has decided not to accept the proposal from businessman Min Bahadur Gurung to construct its central office building on a donation basis. The party has opted to return the offer with gratitude.

According to the decision of the party’s Secretariat meeting, UML will now proceed with the construction of its new central office at Madannagar in Balkhu, where it already owns land.

The proposal states that the party will “thank the donor couple (Meen Bahadur Gurung and his wife) and formally withdraw from the offer, while moving ahead with building the central office in Balkhu.”

Earlier, the foundation stone for the proposed office building to be funded by Gurung was jointly laid in Ashoj 2081 by UML Chair and then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli along with the Gurung couple.

However, the construction work did not progress further.

The party leadership has now decided to accelerate the process of building its headquarters in Balkhu itself.

UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel had already announced the plan during Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day, stating that the new central office would be constructed in Balkhu.

The decision comes after internal controversy within UML over accepting land and construction support from Gurung.

The issue had sparked debate within the party, and leaders Bindha Pandey and Ushakiran Timsina were even subjected to disciplinary action after raising concerns over the matter.
