UML candidate changes in Sunsari-1

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML candidate in Sunsari Constituency No. 1 has changed.
The party had initially decided on Saturday to field provincial committee member Surya Pandhak as the candidate.
However, on Sunday, the party shifted its nomination to young leader Tika Manglen, a district committee member of UML Sunsari and a former student politician.
Party leader Jagdish Kusiyait confirmed the last-minute change but said neither he nor the provincial in-charge, Sherdhan Rai, were aware of the reasons behind it. “We returned from Kathmandu on the plane and only learned about it upon landing. The reasons remain unclear,” he said.
According to Kusiyait, the Saturday leadership meeting had authorized party chairman KP Sharma Oli to finalize candidate changes and fill remaining constituencies.
The move in Sunsari-1 appears to have been made under this authority. “The leadership meeting gave the chairman the right to amend nominations and assign candidates for held constituencies,” he added.
