KATHMANDU: Two Nepali women mountaineers who successfully summited the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, were honored in Dallas, Texas, in a special ceremony recognizing their extraordinary achievements.
The event paid tribute to Purnima Shrestha, a photojournalist who has summited Everest five times, and Usha Bishwakarma (Bista), who has scaled the peak twice.
The program was held at the auditorium of the Nepali Cultural and Spiritual Center in Dallas and was jointly organized by the Nepalese Society of Texas, Nepali Cultural and Spiritual Center, Nepalese Medical Association of Texas, and other community organizations.
During the ceremony, both Shrestha and Bisht shared their incredible mountaineering journeys and challenges faced while climbing the Himalayas.
Their stories moved the audience, and members of the Nepali community emotionally honored the climbers with heartfelt appreciation.
Shrestha shared that she has climbed eight Himalayan peaks over 8,000 meters and reached the summit of Everest three times in just 13 days — a rare and remarkable feat in mountaineering history.
Bisht, on the other hand, highlighted her successful ascents of Everest and other peaks in Nepal, the United States, Russia, and Australia.
She is also recognized as the first woman from Nepal’s Far-Western region to summit Mount Everest.
The local Nepali community praised the climbers for their exceptional courage, determination, and contribution to national pride, calling them inspiring symbols of Nepal’s strength and resilience.
