KATHMANDU: Two Nepali students studying at Louisiana Tech University lost their lives in a tragic car accident in Louisiana, USA.
The victims have been identified as 22-year-old Rajan Yadav and 20-year-old Rozin Oli.
According to the Louisiana State Police, the accident occurred around 9 p.m. local time on Saturday during heavy rainfall.
The 2010 Honda Accord driven by Yadav was headed eastbound on U.S. Highway 80 when it lost control, slid off the road, and struck a tree. The vehicle caught fire shortly after the crash.
Two other students who were also in the car sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Further details about their condition have not been released.
Authorities have confirmed that both deceased individuals were Nepali citizens, although their permanent addresses in Nepal have not yet been disclosed.
The police are continuing their investigation into the accident.
Louisiana Tech University Expresses Condolences
Following the tragic incident, Louisiana Tech University released a statement mourning the loss of its students.
University President Jim Henderson expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“This is an incredibly painful time for our university community,” said President Henderson in a statement posted on Facebook. “We have always embraced care and compassion as core values. Please, take care of one another.”
The university community is reportedly in mourning, as students and faculty remember the lives lost in the heartbreaking accident.
