KATHMANDU: Turkish authorities have detained 198 suspected members of ISIS following a nationwide security crackdown triggered by a вооружed attack on a police checkpoint in Istanbul.
Justice Minister Akin Gürlek confirmed that legal action was initiated against 273 individuals in coordinated raids across 34 provinces.
Of those, 198 suspects have been formally jailed pending trial.
The operation was launched after three attackers opened fire near the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday.
One assailant was killed in the clash, while two police officers and four others—including two attackers—were injured.
According to officials, the raids are part of broader efforts to neutralize internal and cross-border security threats.
Turkey has intensified its counterterrorism measures in recent years, regularly targeting ISIS networks and other banned groups.
Turkey designated ISIS as a terrorist organization in 2013 and has since faced multiple deadly attacks linked to the group.
