TU gives 35-day ultimatum to vacate cricket ground
The university had already published a public notice on April 17 (Baisakh 4), directing concerned bodies to vacate the occupied land.
KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan University has issued a 35-day ultimatum to clear the cricket ground within its premises as part of its campaign to reclaim encroached land.
The university had already published a public notice on April 17 (Baisakh 4), directing concerned bodies to vacate the occupied land.
Following the decision, TU’s General Administration Division under the Registrar’s Office has formally written to Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
The existing agreement between TU and CAN is set to expire at the end of Baisakh (mid-May).
According to a university official, separate notices have been sent to all organizations occupying TU land as part of the clearance drive.
A TU official indicated that the university is not in favor of renewing the agreement with CAN this time.
However, CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama said the association has not yet received the letter, suggesting delays due to public holidays.
Meanwhile, a recent CAN board meeting decided to initiate efforts to renew the agreement with TU.
The meeting held on April 6 (Chaitra 23) resolved to request the government, through the National Sports Council, to extend the contract period.
