KATHMANDU: Penpa Tsering, the head of the Central Tibetan Administration, has congratulated Balendra Shah on his appointment as Nepal’s prime minister.

In a message issued after Mr Shah was sworn in on 27 March, Mr Tsering described his rise to office—widely seen as driven by a youth-led movement—as a reflection of the aspirations of Nepal’s younger generation.

He noted that Mr Shah’s leadership symbolises a shift towards new political energy in the country.

The Tibetan leader also highlighted the long-standing cultural and spiritual connections between Nepal and Tibet, saying these ties have been sustained over generations.

He acknowledged Nepal’s role in hosting Tibetan refugees, many of whom fled after China’s takeover of Tibet, and praised their contribution to Nepal’s society while maintaining their cultural identity.

Expressing gratitude to the Nepali government and people, Mr Tsering said their support had been vital in allowing the Tibetan community to live and work in the country.

He concluded by wishing Mr Shah office success, voicing hope that Nepal would see continued progress and that ties between the two communities would grow stronger under his leadership.
