KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) will remain closed for seven hours each night until May 18 to accelerate ongoing infrastructure upgrades.

According to Indu Raj Adhikari, chief of the airport’s Terminal Management Division, flight operations will be suspended daily from 11:45 PM to 6:30 AM to facilitate pavement construction work.

The project is currently focused on building a taxiway adjacent to the runway.

Authorities said the nighttime closure is necessary to ensure safety during construction.

In a notice, the airport office stated that the temporary shutdown aims to speed up development work.

Airlines have been urged to adjust flight schedules as needed to minimize disruption to passengers.
