KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in several parts of Nepal on Tuesday.

Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane explained that the country is currently influenced by westerly winds, partial local air currents, and a low-pressure system near the eastern region.

According to Lamichhane, Monday will see mostly cloudy conditions in the hill and mountain regions, while the Terai is expected to experience partly cloudy skies. Some areas in the hills and mountains of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces may witness rainfall and snowfall, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning in the Terai and other provinces.

“Tuesday afternoon will bring cloudy skies across most hill and mountain regions, including Koshi Province, with a likelihood of moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds in several areas,” Lamichhane said. At night, the Himalayan regions are expected to remain generally cloudy, the hills partly cloudy, and the Terai mostly clear. Light rain and snowfall are possible at a few locations in the highlands of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.

The department also forecasts partly to mostly cloudy skies nationwide on Wednesday, with chances of moderate rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in hill and mountain areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against the hazards of thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and hail.
