Thai national held at TIA

KATHMANDU: A 39-year-old Thai national has been arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) with 3.435 kilograms of cannabis.

Authorities said Yonghut Thuivan was stopped on Monday while arriving from Bangkok via Thai Airways.

Airport security officials grew suspicious and found the drugs concealed in his luggage.

“Mr. Thuivan was apprehended at the arrival tunnel gate while attempting to smuggle the substance,” said Dhundhiraj Neupane, spokesperson for the airport security office.

He added that the suspect has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau in Koteshwor for further investigation.
