KATHMANDU: Thirty-three Nepali workers, including seven women, arrived in Bahrain on Saturday after being stranded in Kuwait for 21 days due to the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
The workers’ transit to Bahrain was facilitated by the Nepali embassies in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Following coordination with the Saudi government, visas were issued, enabling the workers to travel overland from Kuwait to Bahrain—a journey of nearly 550 kilometers.
Most of the workers are employed by McDonald’s.
Since Feb 28, when the Kuwait airport was closed, the stranded Nepalis had been accommodated in hotels, with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in Kuwait providing meals and essential support.
