KATHMANDU: In a Group B clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday, Sri Lanka posted a formidable 225/5 against Oman.

After Oman won the toss and elected to field first, Sri Lanka’s innings got off to a shaky start, with openers Pathum Nissanka and Kamal Mendis contributing just 13 and 8 runs respectively.

The innings was steadied by a brilliant partnership between Kusal Mendis and Pavan Rathnayake, who put together 94 runs for the third wicket.

Rathnayake scored a quickfire 60 off 28 balls, hitting eight boundaries and a six, while Mendis added 61 off 45 balls, including seven fours before being run out.

Captain Dasun Shanaka then unleashed an explosive cameo, smashing 50 runs off just 20 balls, with five sixes and two boundaries, taking Sri Lanka to a challenging total of 226 for their opponents.

Sri Lanka will now look to defend this massive score and claim a crucial win in their T20 World Cup campaign.
