KATHMANDU: House of Representatives Speaker Devaraj Ghimire has indicated that there is a possibility of the dissolved House being restored.

Speaking at an interaction program in Jhapa-2 on Tuesday, Ghimire stated that the matter of parliamentary dissolution is currently under consideration by the Supreme Court, and the House could be reinstated following the court’s decision.

He also reiterated that the parliament was forcibly dissolved, effectively taking the Constitution beyond its intended framework.

Highlighting his legal and constitutional mandate, Ghimire said he is required to carry out his duties until Falgun 5, and he is acting accordingly.

Ghimire said, “Around 11 PM on Bhadra 27, the parliament was forcibly dissolved. In that sense, the Constitution was taken beyond its intended limits. However, since the Speaker’s term as per the Constitution and law remains, I am obliged to continue in my position until Falgun 5, before the scheduled general elections on Falgun 21. There is also a possibility of the House being restored tomorrow. I have presented this before, and what happens tomorrow will be determined by the circumstances. As Speaker, I intend to continue performing my role as mandated.”

He further clarified that due to his official responsibilities, he has not yet decided whether he will participate in the upcoming elections.
