Spain qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup

KATHMANDU: Spain secured their spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after playing out a 2–2 draw against Turkey on Tuesday.
Finishing at the top of Group ‘E’, Spain concluded the qualifiers in dominant fashion, winning five of their six matches — all with clean sheets.
Spain took an early lead in the 4th minute when Dani Olmo found the back of the net.
Turkey responded in the 42nd minute through Deniz Gul, leveling the match before halftime.
Turkey turned the game around in the 54th minute as Salih Özcan made it 2–1.
However, Spain equalized just eight minutes later, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring from a rebound to secure the draw.
With Spain already qualified, Turkey, who finished second in the group, will now have to fight for a World Cup berth through the playoffs.
