Balen stays at 16-room resort in Chitwan; staff given leave, CCTV disabled
According to sources, PM Shah is staying at the recently completed and operational Latouli Century Resort in Shaktikhor, Ward No. 9 of Kalika Municipality.
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah reached Chitwan on Sunday to attend the inaugural session of the first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
He arrived in Bharatpur along with his wife and daughter to participate in both the opening and closed-door sessions of the event.
According to sources, PM Shah is staying at the recently completed and operational Latauli Sanctuary Resort in Shaktikhor, Ward No. 9 of Kalika Municipality.
The resort has been booked for four days starting June 20.
Out of 16 rooms fully reserved for the delegation, 13 rooms will be used for guests, while the remaining three are kept for flexible VIP use.
Three dedicated VIP rooms have also been arranged for high-level guests, including PM Shah and Home Minister Sudhan Gurung along with other leaders aligned with the Balen faction.
Security around the resort has been significantly tightened. A joint team of the Nepali Army and Police conducted advance security checks on Saturday, and personnel have been deployed continuously since then.
Due to security sensitivity, CCTV systems inside the resort have reportedly been turned off, and staff have been restricted from taking photographs or using mobile phones freely.
Most resort employees have been temporarily given leave, with only a limited team deployed for essential services, including kitchen and housekeeping staff.
The resort is located about 16 kilometers northeast of the convention venue and lies near the road junction leading to the historic Upardangadhi and Siddhi areas.
In addition, 14 rooms at the nearby Bhuranokot Resort—also operated by the same company—have been reserved for four days.
The Bhuranokot property is located about 400 meters uphill from Latouli Century Resort.
Local entrepreneur Gyanendra Khadka owns and operates both resorts, which have recently gained attention in Chitwan’s tourism sector.
Earlier, RSP General Secretary Bhupendra Shah had also stayed at the same property.
