Son-in-law arrested for killing mother-in-law
She had been staying at her daughter’s home in Janata Basti and was preparing to return home on Monday.
KATHMANDU: A woman who had traveled from Bhojpur to Itahari for medical treatment was allegedly killed by her son-in-law following a domestic dispute, police said on Monday.
According to the Area Police Office, Itahari, the victim, Pabimaya Bayalkoti (56) of Dingla, Bhojpur, had arrived in Itahari about a week ago with her husband for treatment.
She had been staying at her daughter’s home in Janata Basti and was preparing to return home on Monday.
On Sunday, Bayalkoti visited the rented room of her son-in-law, Ganesh Sah Gupta (40)—originally from Bahuni, Morang, and currently living in Itahari—where a family dispute escalated.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that frequent arguments between Gupta and his wife were the underlying cause.
Police said that during a late-night argument between the couple, Bayalkoti attempted to intervene.
In a fit of anger, Gupta allegedly assaulted her, causing fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead from head injuries.
Gupta has been taken into police custody on murder charges, and further investigation is underway, police added.
