KATHMANDU: A heated scene unfolded in Nepal’s House of Representatives after Speaker DP Aryal refused to grant speaking time to the Shram Sanskriti Party, prompting the party to stage a protest inside the chamber.

Lawmakers from the party initially stood up in their seats to register opposition before moving to the well of the House, chanting slogans against the Speaker and accusing him of discrimination.

Party leader Harka Sampang questioned why his party was denied the opportunity to speak when other lawmakers were allowed to address the House.

In response, Speaker Aryal said the party had not been listed to speak and cited what he described as “disruptive behavior” during ministerial remarks as the reason for withholding time.

“You were continuously disrupting even when ministers were speaking, so I cannot give you speaking time,” the Speaker said, proceeding with regular parliamentary business.

Following the ruling, Shram Sanskriti Party lawmakers gathered near the rostrum, chanting slogans and accusing the Speaker of bias and unfair treatment, escalating tensions inside the House.
