Ghising demands probe into Royal Massacre, Bhandari death case
KATHMANDU: Chair of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, Kulman Ghising, has called for comprehensive investigations into several high-profile and controversial incidents, including the Royal Palace massacre and the death of former communist leader Madan Bhandari.
Speaking at a party entry program held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Ghising said that the investigation into the Royal Palace massacre should be conducted with the involvement of both national and international experts, especially after newly appointed Home Minister Sudhan Gurung reportedly expressed commitment to reopening the case.
He also stressed the need to uncover the truth behind the death of Madan Bhandari and raised questions surrounding the death of former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, urging transparent and impartial investigations.
Ghising further highlighted that justice has yet to be delivered in the case of the Nirmala Panta murder, calling on the government to make public the real findings and ensure accountability. He also demanded the release of the Lal Commission report formed after the Tikapur incident, which has remained undisclosed.
On the issue of cooperative fraud cases, Ghising called for a fair and thorough investigation, stating that victims have not yet recovered their savings despite multiple inquiries. He argued that compensation should be recovered from those involved in the fraud rather than relying on state funds.
He further emphasized that alleged fugitive GB Rai should be brought back to Nepal and presented publicly, saying his testimony could help reveal the truth behind large-scale cooperative irregularities.
In addition, Ghising criticized recent remarks made by Prime Minister Balen Shah regarding border-related issues, saying that such sensitive matters should not be spoken about irresponsibly.
